Oil painting earliest usage of its discovery goes far back in the fifth century where Indian and Chinese artists created thousands and hundreds of paintings in the nexus of caves but oil painting did not achieve usage and widespread importance until, 15th century in the Northern Europe. Gradually oil painting spread through the Europe, also replacing painting which was the most prominent medium of early’s style known as tempera painting, becomes the painting practice associated with the art of the High Renaissance.
Oil paints are made from a binder and pigments, linseed oil which is extracted from flaxseeds. Oil and pigment were used in the early 12th century, but egg tempera was very popular at that period. In the 15th century, Dutch painters adopted oil colours as their primary medium, which was far more adaptable than egg tempera.
Oil painting first appeared in the fifteenth century, and used by Northern Europe painter. Since that time, artists have developed and expanded on techniques of oil paintings.
So there are way many different techniques, medium, surfaces and brushes. In oil painting a person is free to paint in the way he loves or want, so this art is very versatile. Even if you want to discover your own way you are free because oil paintings never lose there grace if texture is changed, it always have an appealing effect on the person watching the painting.
